Building bridges

The Planetary Health Academy builds a bridge from knowledge to action: it enables participants to act as change agents, shaping and promoting the vision of healthy people on a healthy planet.

What is Planetary Health?

Planetary Health refers to the health of human civilization and the state of the natural systems on which it depends. It is an interdisciplinary field, encompassing multiple areas such as environmental science, medicine, public health, social sciences, and more.

Planetary Health focuses on the consequences of man-made ecological destruction – namely the loss of biodiversity, climate change, pollution, and change of land use. Planetary Health tries, at the same time, to find solutions to these problems that can help both humans and the environment thrive.

Why health professionals?

The health sector plays a central role in the communication, prevention and aftercare of the effects of the climate and environmental crisis. It is therefore essential to ensure that climate change and Planetary Health are included in the education, training and continuing education of all health professions.
